Jivamukti Yoga Foundation 4 week course

Week 1 – An Introduction to Surya Namaskar & Standing & Balancing Postures
4th November: 12:00-2:00pm

In week one we will be breaking down the basics of Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutations).

Sun Salutations are a key asana sequence in a Jivamukti Class. This week we will be breaking down the basics of Surya Namaskar. We will be exploring each pose individually in detail and finally putting the sequence together from start to finish. With a focus on harnessing the breath and matching it with movement. Learning how to navigate through while keeping your cool with power and grace.

We will also be breaking down fundamental standing & balancing postures in the Jivamukti Practice. Standing postures reflect back to us how we are literally connecting to the earth, to all beings and all things in nature. Balancing asana can give us an insight as to what is happening firstly with our foundation and then our balance or lack there of within. Working with these asana gives space to create grounding, inner balance and strength. Moving through these asana can result in confidence and stability not just in the practice but also when you step of the mat.

Week 2 – Forward bends, Hip openers & Back bending
11th November: 12:00-2:00pm

Forward bending takes us into our past, teaching us how to resolve old issues by letting go of negative emotions that become trapped in the hamstrings, the hips and the back. This week will give us an opportunity to start to experience and breakdown the fundamental forward bends and hip openers we need to progress and build flexibility in the practice.

We will also be looking at and breaking down the main backbends we would experience in a Jivamukti class. Backward bending helps us move into our future with grace and freedom not only by relieving tightness in the thighs, abdomen, chest, throat and face, but also by relieving related fears and other negative emotions that can be held in those areas. We will be looking at ways to safely work into some deep back bends with different techniques and props while looking after the spine.

Week 3 – Vinyasa Krama – moving with the breath
18th November: 12:00-2:00pm

In this workshop we will work from the ground up, breaking down the foundations of a VInyasa Flow.

Vinyasa Flow is a series of movements or postures that are connected to the inhale and exhale. A process of connecting the movement with the breath and in turn bringing unity to the body and mind. In this workshop we will break down Ujjai breath one of the most fundamental parts of the yoga practice and then breaking down Sun Salutations to the core. We will look at the individual postures that make up a Sun Salutation, looking at your alignment so that you can avoid injury moving forward in your practice.

We will also have the chance to breakdown different techniques for modifying transitions between each posture, so that you can change up your practice to your individual needs. We all have different body types and personal needs on all levels so this is an opportunity to move forward from a very mindful and intuitive place. Finally, we’ll bring it all together in a flow that will leave you feeling graceful and with a big smile on your face.

When you leave this workshop, you will have more confidence to step on your yoga mat and flow through a Vinyasa style class with ease and joy.

Week 4 – Breaking down Spiritual Warrior
25th November:  12:00-2:00pm

Spiritual Warrior is a is a fully balanced fast paced one hour Jivamukti class which is a set sequence. This workshop is an opportunity to slow and break things down step by step.

This will give opportunity for students to refine their practice through a more detailed exploration of the asanas involved in this sequence. Also looking at how to flow with and harness a steady Ujjai breath, the foundation and key to the yoga practice.

This is an opportunity for all students whether beginner or advanced to strip things back and get clear on alignment, breath work, intention, transitions and meditation. This is an opportunity to ask questions and clean up any issues you may have.
